The Client
This is an opportunity to join a well-established Mechanical and Electrical Building Services Design & Build contractor based just outside Bristol.
The business has built a strong reputation for delivering technically involved projects across commercial, industrial, logistics and agricultural environments. They are known for their practical approach, quality of workmanship and long-standing client relationships.
Typical project values sit around £2.5m to £3m, with several schemes running at the same time. The company is large enough to be delivering proper, complex work, but still close-knit enough for good people to be trusted, visible and genuinely valued.
This is not a business where you disappear into layers of management or spend your week fighting unnecessary internal politics. The leadership team is hands-on, technically capable and focused on delivering work properly.
Why This Role Exists
The role exists because of continued project demand and the need to strengthen the mechanical delivery team.
The company has a solid pipeline of work and now needs an experienced Mechanical Contracts Manager who can take ownership of multiple live projects, keep control of programme, cost, quality and client communication, and help maintain the standards the business is known for.
For someone already working as a Mechanical Contracts Manager, Senior Mechanical Project Manager or experienced Mechanical Project Manager, this could be a very sensible next move.
It is particularly well suited to someone who is doing well where they are, but perhaps feels their current role has become too reactive, too corporate, or too limited in terms of autonomy and progression.
The Role
As Mechanical Contracts Manager, you will take responsibility for delivering mechanical building services projects from pre-construction through to completion.
You will oversee mechanical packages end-to-end, managing budgets, programmes, procurement, subcontractors, site teams and client relationships to ensure each project is delivered safely, commercially and to the expected standard.
You will act as the key link between the client, design team, site operations and senior management, making sure projects are delivered to specification, on programme and within budget.
The Person
The company is looking for an experienced Mechanical Contracts Manager, Senior Project Manager or strong Mechanical Project Manager with a solid background in building services.
You will need to be comfortable managing several live projects at the same time, typically around the £2.5m to £3m mark, with experience across commercial, industrial, logistics or agricultural environments.
A strong technical understanding of HVAC and wider mechanical systems is important, along with the commercial awareness to manage costs, procurement, variations and client expectations properly. You will also need to be confident leading subcontractors, engineers, supervisors and site teams, while keeping a close eye on programme, quality and health and safety.
This role would suit someone based in Bristol, the South West or within a sensible commuting distance, with a full UK driving licence.
The right attitude matters here. The business wants someone who takes pride in delivery, communicates properly and brings solutions rather than excuses.
The Package
The package is designed to attract an experienced Mechanical Contracts Manager who wants a strong long-term role with a good business.
The salary is £65,000 to £75,000, depending on experience. The wider package includes a performance-related bonus, private healthcare and wellbeing support, hybrid working options, company mobile and laptop, generous holiday entitlement, pension scheme and genuine opportunities for career development and progression.
